A dental crown is a tooth shaped restoration that covers or caps a tooth to restore it to its normal shape, size or alignment. A dental crown will strengthen and improve the appearance of a tooth. Crowns are cemented in place. A crown is used when a tooth is so badly damaged that a simple filling will not work. Tippin Dental Group uses advanced techniques to ensure an accurate and comfortable fit for all dental crown work. Call today to schedule an appointment.

Why is a dental crown used?

  • Replace a large filling
  • Protect a weak tooth
  • Restore a fractured tooth
  • Attach a bridge
  • Cover a dental implant, poorly shaped tooth or a tooth with a root canal

Our dental office creates dental crowns that look like a natural tooth. They will take an impression to ensure the dental crown fits accurately and comfortably. A lot of different considerations are made when placing a crown. Our dentists will look at the color, bite, shape and length of your natural teeth to ensure the dental crown looks and feels natural.

How long does a dental crown last?

Generally, dental crowns have a lifespan of between five and 15 years. Some crowns last up to 25 or 30 years or even longer. Most insurance companies will pay if the crown needs to be replaced any time after five years. To prevent damaging or breaking the crown, avoid eating hard foods, ice or other hard objects. If teeth grinding is a problem you experience, ask our Wichita dentists about nighttime appliances that can be worn to protect your teeth and crown.

It’s great to know that dental crowns will be able to last for about 25-30 years if they are maintained properly. With that in mind, I will make sure to take care of them properly so that I won’t have to replace them in the future anymore. I just need to have my tooth crowned because I have a decaying part in one of my teeth which I might have gotten due to my neglect as well.

I didn’ t know that dental crowns could last up to 25 years when cared for correctly. My son has to get one since he had to get quite a large filling and I want to make sure he knows how to take care of it so we don’t end up spending more money than we have to.

My dad damaged one of his teeth when he accidentally bumped into the door. It was explained here that a dental crown is needed to restore a fractured tooth. Moreover, it’s recommended to go to trusted dentists when considering dental crowns.

Thanks for explaining that crowns can be used to cover a tooth that’s been fractured or is poorly shaped. I’ve been wanting to look into my options to fix my small, misshapen upper incisor before my wedding next January. I didn’t realize a dental crown would be a good fit before reading your article, so I really appreciate you sharing this info about them!
